About this range
A water-jet cutter pushes water through a small ruby or diamond nozzle at up to 420 MPa; with abrasive garnet added to the jet it cuts steel, stainless steel, aluminium, stone, glass and composites cold, with no heat-affected zone and no change to the material at the edge. Pure water cuts softer materials such as rubber, foam and gaskets. What separates one machine from another is the pump, the cutting head and the bed: the intensifier sets the pressure and how thick the material can be, the head decides between three-axis cutting and bevel cutting, and the travel sets the largest sheet you can load.
