Galaxy UD-16R2LA Eco-Solvent Roll Printer
The Galaxy UD-16R2LA is a roll-fed eco-solvent printer built around Epson i3200 E1 printheads, supplied with one or two heads depending on the throughput required. It prints CMYK across a maximum width of 1600 mm and handles rolls up to 100 m long, with a rated output above 95 m²/h in two-pass draft mode. Media it takes include frontlit and backlit PVC, mesh, self-adhesive vinyl and paper, so one machine covers most of the roll work a sign shop sees.
Eco-solvent ink has to be driven into the coating and then taken dry before the print reaches the take-up roller, which is what the heating and drying package is for. The machine uses a triple heating system along the media path together with a two-stage dryer that combines forced ventilation with infrared. Prints therefore leave the machine dry enough to roll up and handle straight away, and the cured film resists abrasion and sunlight once mounted.
Ink comes from a chipless CISS bulk supply, so consumables are refilled from bottles rather than cartridges, and the supplied colour profiles are built to lay down less ink for a given result. The catalogue puts running cost at 0.28 €/m² at average photographic coverage. An anti-crush system watches for media that has lifted off the platen and protects the carriage before it strikes, and a take-up system is included in the standard configuration.
Installation is modest: 4 × 2 m of floor space, a 220 V single-phase supply and 3300 W of draw, with one operator to load media and run jobs. The machine weighs 204 kg and is driven by the FlexiPrint RIP. It is aimed at advertising production workshops with volumes up to roughly 500 m² a day, producing both indoor and outdoor work.
